Learning & Wellbeing

At SMCM learning is centred around the full flourishing of each child.

Our learning and wellbeing programs are designed to meet the academic needs of our children as well as their social, emotional and faith development. Our contemporary learning environment is both flexible and adaptive allowing us to develop confident learners who are creative, resilient, collaborative and able to self-manage. Personalising learning is vital to the success of each child’s unique development.

At SMCM, student learning is developed in line with the Victorian Curriculum.

At SMCM, our engagement norms are woven into learning experiences, helping every student feel connected, confident and ready to learn. Through regular opportunities to respond, students actively participate, share their thinking and engage deeply with new learning.

Across Foundation and Year One, students are immersed in meaningful learning experiences that support the development of their oral language skills. Through rich literature, play-based learning opportunities and connections to their Inquiry learning, students engage in meaningful conversations, retell and create stories and confidently share their ideas with others.

As they participate in these experiences, students expand their vocabulary, learn to listen to different perspectives and develop confidence in expressing their thinking.
